    5. Starting with three bodies at the bottom of a pool, I thought I was settling into a murder mystery I was wrong Thursday Night Widows is than just a who done it it is why it was done The ending really surprised me, though.Four apparently affluent men get together every Thursday night to drink, smoke cigars, and drink The wives of the men call themselves the Thursday Night Widows a name that becomes true for 3 of the 4 women when El Tano s gardener makes the gruesome discovery It appears an accid [...]

    12. This fiction novel started well in the first chapters introducing briefly the main characters of the story and revealing the happening of a deadly and mysterious event inside one of the most exclusive country club outside Buenos Aires in 2001 Then, the author turned the timing of the story a couple decades back to the start of the country club The entire novel is about the lives of the wealthy Argentinian residents of this elite country club from the first time decades ago they arrived to buy a [...]

    14. I bought this book in the beautiful Ateneo Gran Splendid It hit the mark I wanted a book originally written in Spanish by an Argentine, that would keep me engaged when reading in my second language It was a bit hard to keep track of the characters, but their stories were interesting, and of course I wanted to know why the husbands died That is not a spoiler I appreciated the Real Housewives of the Country feel, the Argentine dialect, and the chapter that had a complete dialogue of a game of truc [...]

    15. In a wealthy gated community somewhere outside Buenos Aires, Argentina I no longer care enough to go back and look up exactly where , houses are large and perfect Men are wealthy and play golf and tennis Women are well groomed and leave the cooking, cleaning and the raising of children to maids and nannies Four men of the community get together every Thursday night to play cards, to drink, chat, smoke cigars, whatever it is that wealthy, important men do in their down time Their wives, abandoned [...]

    21. This book was not at the top of my to read list, but after two books about organ harvesting and one with torture, mutilation and enforced cannibalism, I wanted something lighter, such as a nice clean murder mystery, with insights into another country s society. This may be an accurate portrayal of Argentine upper echelons and their preoccupations Their behaviour would not be out of place in a Home Counties country club That is not a compliment.I enjoyed this book for its satirical look into a ima [...]

    22. This was a good read through the intimate stories of several elite families in a gated community in Argentina, the author details the economic instability in that country over a period of roughly 15 years and its devastating impact Universal theme of the once affluent, living beyond their means, denying that the bottom is falling out and unwilling, perhaps even unable, to adjust.

    24. There were lots of characters and they had lots of names and there were many goings on involved with everybody and their children and their maids and all of those people s names and there was a lot of names This novel has a silly drawn out structure to it but I guess it assisted in my climbing into everybody s head and thoughts and precisely how we get into the prevailing situation laid out in the early pages of the story I didn t dislike this book but I don t need to remember it in two months.I [...]
